Laurine Arnould and Julien Sequeval from France stayed for 6 months in Ghana at Cosmic Academy in 2006. Before arriving we knew that we wouldn't have the same comforts that one would expect in France, such as running water and electricity. We didn't go to Ghana as tourists but as volunteers wanting to experience the life as locals live it(whereas some "volunteers" came as tourists to enjoy the beach). Jayaliila, the director, is a great woman. She always tried to make us feel comfortable. If we had any problem we could talk to her and she always tried to improve our trip there. For the money she was very honest and told us what she was doing with it and she always used it for the comfort of the children. She is a great cook and we had lots of different Ghanaian and vegetarian dishes. She even taught us how to cook. Even if the work was a bit difficult in the beginning, she helped us a lot and we enjoyed working with the children a lot! The children are adorable and we felt really loved by all of them! The Ghanaian host family was very nice, they were generous to us and they kept the house safe for us. To conclude we spent a great time in Ghana and we even plan to come back again to visit Jayaliila and the children. |
