Experiences: Hands For Mercy

Projects > Africa > Tanzania > Hands For Mercy

Anna Marsal from Spain volunteered at Hands For Mercy in 2007.

It's difficult to describe what you get from your time as a "teacher" in Mwanza. Before I left Spain, I thought that what I would do for those kids would be great. Now that I'm back, I realise that it is really AMAZING what this kids have done to me, what I have learnt from my time in Mwanza. I have never felt as happy as amongst those children. They delight you with their games, their songs and their smiles. Just for the fact that you are there.

The orphanage is set in Buswelu, a small town next to Mwanza. It is a nice town and there is no need to be afraid of anything. Local people are friendly and open to wazungu (white people). They will make you feel very welcome and after your first week there, you will have definitely felt in love with Tanzania, Buswelu and its people.
